SE Magazines: Redesign and artworking for four monthly micro magazines
Angela Burgess (Director of SE magazines) asked me to work on the redesign of the SE magazines in late 2008. She wanted to freshen up the look of the magazines. The project became an evolution of the original design created by Angela.
I based the design on a grid system to allow for flexibility of column widths. There are a number of contributors to the magazines and some write short articles with no imagery, some write full page articles with many images, so flexibility was key. I worked on a number of elements to create a consistent look across each article. These include design of the article footer sign off, to include the author image and contact details. I also defined the look of the imagery.
Since completing the redesign, I have worked on the magazines each month doing layout of the articles. The design has continually evolved with minor tweaks to polish the look.
